Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrated across by the Hindus when the Shravan Purnima falls in the month of Shravan during the full moon day, which generally occurs in the month of August.

On this day, sisters tie Rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well being , to which brothers in return promise to protect their sisters from every kind of problem or difficulty. Raksha Bandhan is combination of two beautiful words, Raksha meaning protection and Bandhan meaning the bond, which tell that it is a festival of ‘a bond of protection’.

Rakhi is celebrated with a lot of love and affection. There are no boundaries on celebrating Rakhi on the basis of caste, color or religion. People unite and celebrate the festival of bonding together with tenderness.

The celebration of Rakhi involves a lot of preparations. According to the traditions, the family members are supposed to take bath and purify their mind and body before any preparations start. Sisters get the pooja thali ready consisting of tilak, rakhi threads, rice grains, agarbatti, diya and sweets. After the ritual has been offered to the deities of the family, the sister performs the aarti of the brother and ties the rakhi on his wrist, followed by putting of the kumkum powder on the forehead and offering sweets amongst chanting of mantras.

In return, the brother pampers his sister and blesses her and promises to protect her from all the harms and evils of the world. The brother can give a gift as well as in return like some chocolates, salwar suit, etc.
