Why is Krishna Janmashtami celebrated?
Krishna Janmashtami is an auspicious occasion for the followers of Hinduism, as this day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. Lord krishna was a protector, friend, leader, hero and a philosopher to all.
Janmashtami is observed on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadra month of the Hindu calendar. The festival always falls within the mid of August or September. It is known by other names as well such as Gokulashtami or Krishnashtami.
Sri Krishna is said to be the eighth avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu on earth. It is also said that the festivity of this festival brings joy and utmost pleasure as Sri Krishna himself was a symbol of extreme joy and happiness in all his levels of life.
Lord Krishna was child of Devaki and Vasudev biologically, who was born in the prison where both mother and father of Lord krishna were being kept as there was a prophecy that son of Devaki would kill Kansa, brother of Devaki. But Lord Krishna was brought up by Yashoda and Nanda, who lived in the nearby village named Gokul. Thus Lord krishna was born as the protector of humankind and to bring an end to the brutality of Kansa to everyone and free his parents from the imprisonment.
