Celebrations of Ramadan in India
Ramadan is the ninth month, which comes after the month of Shabaan. In the month of Ramadan, muslims keep fasts and this fast starts from the dusk to dawn. The people keeping the fast are prohibited to eat, drink or have intercourse.
Ramadan celebrations can be seen among all the muslims. Celebration is seen as the keeping of the fasts, praying the Salats, eating of iftar at the time of dawn to break the fast in the Sunnah way by eating the dates followed by whichever eatables are served with them. Reading Quran and Hadiths is another important things to be done in the month of Ramadan. Giving Zakat or charity is one of the five pillars of Islam, Zakat is paid on the money that you have had for the whole year.
The five pillars of Islam includes Faith or belief in the Oneness of God and the finality of prophethood of Muhammad (s.a.w.), performing of prayer or Salat, fasting in Ramadan, giving Zakat and performing Hajj.
Ramadan is the most auspicious month of the Islamic calendar or the Hijri calendar. In this holy month the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and he was told about his Prophethood by the angel named Jibril.
People do iftar ceremonies in public areas such as mosques, community halls, gardens, markets, etc., for uniting everyone and calling them to do iftar in being together with each other. This unites different people from different genres of life.
