Celebration of Teacher’s Day in India

Teacher's Day celebration in India is to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India which comes on the 5th of September. It was requested by the students, friends and colleagues of Dr. Radhakrishnan to celebrate his birthday, but instead of this he suggested to observe his birthday as the celebration for teachers across the nation. So since 1962, 5th september has been observed as the teacher's day across India.

Teacher’s Day is celebrated in all the schools, there takes a number of different activities for teacher’s day celebration. In some schools, teacher’s day is celebrated by performances prepared by the students which is dedicated to their teachers. It is like the annual functions which take place yearly at schools. In the celebration of teacher’s day, students sing songs, perform dances and have dramas, etc.

In some schools, teachers don’t teach on teacher’s day but the teaching is done by some of the students of the senior classes to the lower. Teachers are made to feel special by performing some prayers and by giving them some treats.

Where some gifts are accepted by the teachers, at some schools it is strictly said that teachers can’t receive the gifts from students on any occasions even if it is teacher’s day. Students bring flowers, cards and cakes as a token of their love and respect for their teachers.

The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth.
